REREAD: Luke 8:1-21

  1. What is the good news about the kingdom of God? (Verse 1)
  2. What is the evidence that the people in 8:1-3 believed in Jesus?
  3. Jesus tells a parable (story with a point). In the parable of the sower, what is the seed?
    1. Who is called THE Word and how might this give clarity to this parable (John 1:1-3, 14)?
    2. In the parable, what are people's responses to the word of God and what is the result?
  4. How can v. 16-21 help us tell if we are truly listening carefully as a believer in Jesus?

REREAD: Luke 8:22-39

  1. These were experienced fisherman and this storm had them panicked. Put yourself in this story. The circumstances, the reactions, the comments, the outcome, the historical significance (Jonah). What are some things that might have been going through your mind?
  2. Have you ever felt like God was sleeping in the midst of your crisis? Explain. What was your response? What was God’s?
  3. How might Jesus' question and the disciples' question be good questions to ask ourselves and others?
  4. Picture the scene. After creation obeying Jesus, you pull up to where you wouldn't want to ever go, a crazy naked demon possessed man is running toward you, he falls at the feet of Jesus, declares who Jesus is (after you questioned "WHO CAN THIS BE?"), and a herd of pigs stampedes off a cliff! How might the different people in this story be tempted to view what had just happened?
  5. “The demons had departed" from the man, "he was sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed, in his right mind", and obeyed Jesus by going and "proclaiming" all He "had done for him". Discuss how this a great picture of what salvation and our relationship with Jesus should look like and the impact it can have?
  6. How does the story of the demon-possessed man encourage us to proclaim what God has done in our lives?
