REREAD: Luke 6:1-11

  1. What was the Sabbath? How should we view the Sabbath (which in our context means Sunday)? How do we have it messed up like in Jesus' day?
  2. How can you begin to live out the principles of the Sabbath more obediently without becoming legalistic? (Legalism asks, "What is right and wrong and what should people get." It does not seek to find what God says is the best way to love Him and love people.)
    1. How can we apply this Sabbath teaching to how we treat every day of the week and Jesus’ Lordship over our lives?
  3. What do these passages tell us about Jesus? About man?

REREAD: Luke 6:12-46

  1. What did Jesus do prior to choosing his disciples? Why is this significant?
    1. Have you ever prayed in this manner? Why or why not?
  2. Prior to Jesus calling the 12, Jesus had a large number of disciples, how would you have felt if you were one of the 12 chosen? How would you have felt if you weren’t chosen? What might that expose about our heart?
  3. Jesus' words for His disciples are tough. What things that Jesus said do you find most difficult and why?
  4. What are the qualities Jesus says "woe" to (6:24-26)? How does that list compare to the desires of our culture?
  5. In what ways does Jesus' teaching on loving enemies challenge us today?
  6. How does Jesus' teaching about love and mercy redefine the concept of "an eye for an eye"?
  7. Verse 37 is one that is used often today, in what contexts do you hear it quoted? Is used properly? What does it actually mean based on the full context of this chapter?
    1. How do we apply this in our lives today?
