REREAD: Luke 12:1-12

  1. What does Jesus' warning about the leaven/yeast of the Pharisees teach us about religious hypocrisy?
  2. How do you feel when you read verses 4-7?
  3. Why do you think Jesus was giving this message to his disciples at this time?
  4. How can Jesus' promise of the Holy Spirit's guidance bring comfort in times of persecution or trial?

Side note- Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is not accepting Jesus and His Lordship. If you are concerned that you have committed the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, you probably haven't otherwise you wouldn't be concerned about it.

REREAD: Luke 12:13-21

  1. In Verse 15, Jesus warned the crowd to be on guard against all greed. According to 1 Timothy 6:9-10, what is so dangerous about greed?
  2. Let’s break down the the parable in Luke 12:16-20
    1. What was so wrong about the rich man’s approach to possessions? Why did God call him a fool?
    2. What do you think it means to be “rich toward God”? Consider Luke 12:33 and Proverbs 19:17
    3. What must we believe about God, heaven, and possessions in order to be “rich toward God” instead of storing up treasure for ourselves in this life?
    4. How does the parable challenge societal values related to wealth and success?

REREAD: Luke 12:22-34

  1. What are the reasons Jesus lists as to why we shouldn’t worry about what our lives?
  2. How do these verses make you feel about God? About your own life?
  3. What practical steps can you take to seek the kingdom of God above material needs?
