Study Questions

READ Ruth 4:1-10

  1. The city gate was a significant place in cities: as a point of entrance for protection, a place to wait for someone, a place to discuss business transactions, and an outdoor judicial court of the elders of the city where a verbal declaration in front of witnesses was legally binding.

READ Ruth 4:11-22

  1. Jacob's sister wives Rachel and Leah were at odds and both barren at times (Genesis 29, 35:16-20). Yet, out of the mess of their situations came 12 sons the 12 tribes of Israel. One of the sons, Judah, did not obey God's law to provide a redeemer to his daughter in law Tamar. So, she tricked Judah and got him to impregnate her (Genesis 38). Perez was born and was greatly used by God. In light of all of this what do you think the elders meant by speaking the blessing they did over Boaz and Ruth?
  2. How has Naomi’s situation changed from Ruth 1 to Ruth 4?
  3. How do you see God working behind the scenes in this chapter, even though He is not directly speaking?
  4. In what ways does Boaz act as a “type” (foreshadowing) of Jesus Christ?
