Welcome to Foot of the Cross church (fxchurch)

Who are we?

We are glad you have chosen to find out more about foot of the cross (fxchurch). This information is the basic introduction to our church family. Since we have people coming to foot of the cross from many different backgrounds, this material is designed to help explain God and His global church family, extended church family, and our local fxchurch family. We take God and His family seriously. Membership at fxchurch is our way of committing to God’s glorious work of telling His story in us and though us as a family of believers. Our goal is to give every person the opportunity to become member of God’s family, and hopefully our local fx family using GO...KNO, SHO, GRO.

"... you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. The whole building, being put together by Him, grows into a holy sanctuary in the Lord. You also are being built together for God’s dwelling in the Spirit." Ephesians 2:19-22 (HCSB)

“For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, " Abba, Father!" The Spirit Himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God's children...” Romans 8:15-16 (HCSB)

As a believer in Jesus Christ, you actually are given the privilege of becoming an adopted member of two families...

...you are adopted and become a member of the God’s church the the global family and Body of Christ. A believer in Jesus has family members all over this world from all different ethnicities and backgrounds, and as a believer you are a distinct part of this massive body. 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 ...you have the privilege of being adopted into a local family by choosing and joining a local Body of Christ called a church. Every local church is important and is a unique expression of God’s diversity and care. Even from an earthly perspective, this design of God makes sense as we are born into the human family and raised through an immediate family. A believer without a local church family could easily be considered an orphan or a widow. James 1:27

FOOT OF THE CROSS CHURCH EXISTS: To GO…Love God and Love people...making disciples through… GO KNO SHO GRO.

THE GOAL OF CLASS 1

Is to help people commit to God through Jesus and commit to His family through a local Church. The difference between “attenders” and “members”, like the difference between dating and marriage, can be summed up in one word: COMMITMENT We hope you will chose to be a part of our local church family, but if not, we hope we can help you find a local church family that you will commit to serve alongside and be sent biblically. It would be great if a former commitment to a church and water baptism meant in our culture what it means in most persecuted cultures, but unfortunately it does not. So as a result at foot of the cross, we recognize the need to better clarify formal membership for 4 reasons:

  1. GO- A BIBLICAL REASON: CHRIST IS COMMITTED TO HIS BRIDE AND HIS FAMILY THE CHURCH. Jesus wants us to commit like He did. He wants us to lay down our lives for His bride. “...Christ loved the church, and he gave his life for it.” Eph. 5:25
  2. KNO- A CULTURAL REASON: IT IS AN ANTIDOTE TO OUR SELFISH SOCIETY. We live in an age where very few want to be surrendered and committed to anything not a job…marriage...family...church... People are focused mostly on themselves and sometimes their own kids, but beyond that, they tend to not want to be accountable to anyone. This attitude has even produced a generation of “church shoppers and hoppers”. People keep dating churches, dumping brides, and switching families for a better option for themselves. Membership swims against the current of America’s “consumer religion.” It is an unselfish decision. We ask for that decision because commitment always builds character.
  3. SHO- A PRACTICAL REASON: IT DEFINES WHO CAN BE COUNTED ON. Every team has a roster. Every school has an enrollment. Every business has a payroll. Every army has an enlistment. Our country takes a census and requires voter registration. God even has an entire book we call Numbers, explaining who can be counted on. Membership identifies family and declares that, “you can count on me”.
  4. GRO- A PERSONAL REASON: IT PRODUCES SPIRITUAL GROWTH THROUGH DISCIPLINE AND ACCOUNTABILITY. The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to have discipline and accountability with each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be lovingly disciplined and held accountable when you’re not committed to any specific family to help you.

We pray that this class will help you commit more of yourself to God through Jesus and commit to His bride through membership in a local church. Take a moment and ask God to prepare your heart.
