Hebrews: Consider Jesus

We tend to consider ourselves and how worthless we are or how awesome we are. Join us, as we encourage one another through the book of Hebrews, to Consider Jesus. #hebrews #2021

As we pause to gather together Lord, LET US draw near to You our Messiah with a true heart in full assurance of faith. LET US hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering because you promised and are faithful. LET US be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works encouraging each other, and all the more as we wait for You to take us home or You return. Amen.

Study Questions

"LET US”

The book of Hebrews was written to exhort believers and specifically Israelites to consider Jesus in the face of their culture. Some believers were turning back to practicing the sacrificial system of the Old Testament that Jesus fulfilled so they could escape being persecuted. As the writer walks the hearers and readers through much of the Old Testament ideas and systems, his desire is to clearly show them how to Consider Jesus in their life now.

God had the author of Hebrews spend 9 1/2 chapters tyring to convice His readers of His character and purpose for humanity as shown through Jesus as Messiah fulfilling all of the scriptures. He is shifting gears in chapter 10 and is now explaining the response of people to that reality.

READ: Hebrews 10:15-25, Phillippians 2:1-11, 19-22

  1. Before God has the author of Hebrews write the LET US statements, He has him write in Hebrews 10:15-20 a synopsis of the last 9 1/2 chapters. What are some things that 10:15-20 say that are true about God and those of us who have surrendered our lives the Messiah?
  2. Discuss how the LET US statements build on one another. Which one do you get hung up on the most and why?
  3. In general, how might reading the scriptures using, GOD MAN ME DO, LET US better draw near, LET US hold on to our confession of hope, and LET US be concerned about others to promte what is trully loving and good?
  4. What “worship gatheings” do we have at fxchurch? Why is consistent faithfulness to family “worship gatherings” so vital to us personally and others? What does it expose about our hearts if we have no desire for “worship gatherings”?
  5. How are the Hebrews and Philippians passages that we read saying the same thing?
  6. In Philippians 1:19-22, Pual said he even had a hard time finding people he could entrust. How did Timothy practically exemplfy an attitude the same as that of Christ Jesus and surrender himslef to the LET US list?

READ: Hebrews 10:26-31, 1 Corinthians 2:12-14

  1. The writer of Hebrews has spent 9 1/2 chapters explaining all that God has done so that we can be confident as believers in Yahweh who saves who is the Messiah (Jesus Christ). Now in Verses 26-31, it seems like he casts some doubt on all of that. In service, Mat had everyone raise their hands who have deliberatley sinned and everyone raised their hands. Satan loves to get us to doubt God. He uses the same tactics all the time like: “Did God really say?” “God is holding out on you.” “This is good.” Based on Satan and his demons attitides and character why would they want to twist a passage like this to get us to doubt God, God’s truth, and God’s covenant promises?
  2. What might be the motivation of someone (or your own motivation) in using these passages to say that you can lose salvation? What might be the motivation of someone who ignores the serious warnings of these passages?
